Myth – they’ll grow out of it.
I get this call from parents probably twice a month. It always starts the same. “Well, the pediatrician said they’d grow out of it.”
Guess what? Now your child is in elementary school and still stuttering.
The challenge of stuttering can significantly impact your family and how your child interacts with others and the world around him.
Children as young as three will begin to show signs of avoidance. Here’s a FACT – about 30% of children with preschool stuttering will NOT grow out of it.
We provide one-on-one speech therapy, individually designed to meet your child’s needs – providing a personalized treatment approach.
Speech therapy should be fun but focused. Your child will look forward to coming. Here’s what I hear most – “Are we going to see Mr. Tom today?”
At this age, I use terms like “Bumpy Speech” and “Smooth and Easy.” We’ll sit at the small table for a while. Then, we will play on the rug and end each session by returning to the table. We personalize our speech therapy approach according to the unique needs of each child.
The training uses several approaches.
We use fun activities to bring about teachable moments during our speeh therapy sessions.
Some methods include awareness training, discrimination training, and identification training.
The goal is to help your preschooler gain fluent speech with as little tension and struggle as possible.
“Wait and see” is not the answer.
The challenge of stuttering can greatly impact not just your family, but how your child interacts with others and the world around him.
You can begin to see signs of avoidance in children as young as three, as previously mentioned.
In the early stages of stuttering, there is a window where nearly a full recovery is possible.
When that window begins to close is different for each little person. EARLY INTERVENTION IS CRITICAL! Contact me today, so we can start helping your preschooler.
